Tales from Thais – Julia O’Brien

Tales from Thais is a collection of short stories written by my friend Julia O’Brien. The book is a prequel to her first book Tales of the Bonded: Fire and Ice.

To support my friend, I volunteered at her book launch at McNally Robinson. I kept track of the number of attendants who attended the event and did event photography.

O’Brien’s books are targeted toward Christian youth who enjoy reading fantasy books.

“I wanted to write another book to bring kids more content – a world kids can invest in without their parents having to worry about what their kids are digesting,” said O’Brien.

Here is an exert from Tales from Thais:

The throne was supposed to belong to Moran. After his birthright is snatched away, Moran and his cunning wife Ashira hatch a plot to bring down the empire and seize the throne. Their plan relies on one creature–the reathin, a creature that breathes both fire and ice and is stronger than any other creature in the world of Thais. The reathins follow Elohim and are a creature of good. They and their riders, called the Bonded, are the protectors of the land and the Followers of Elohim. When the reathins refuse to support Moran’s wicked plan, he and Ashira must find another way–they will steal reathin eggs and raise up for themselves an army. But their plan is not without danger, and neither of them could predict the cost of their deception.
